Interviewer: How important was Max’s role in the Detroit Renaissance during that time? It was very, very key. First of all, you have to know that Max is a born leader. And he shows it in many, many ways. He shows it in the Jewish community. He shows it in the political community. And he shows it in his city. And…his leadership is based upon his ability to build consensus. It’s marvelous to watch him build diverse groups into consensus, on a key thing to be done in the city.
