In President Ford's White House
January 1, 1975
Abstract
In the spring and summer of 1975, when United States-endorsed disengagement negotiations between Israel and Egypt failed, President Ford relied on Max Fisher to appease relations with scorned Israel, acting as unofficial ambassador and intermediary between Israel and Washington. About his role that year, Fisher later said, "I knew that the Americans and Israelis had faith in me. Both sides could speak honestly and trust that the things they wanted kept in confidence I would keep in confidence."
