Detroit Mayor Coleman Young and President Jimmy Carter

Abstract

With Jimmy Carter having defeated Gerald Ford in the 1976 Presidential election, Max had lost his connection to the White House, which could have hurt his pursuit of federal loans and grants for the Riverfront project. But Coleman Young was a friend of Carter’s and that friendship, along with Fisher’s and Coleman’s ability to work together, proved invaluable in getting Riverfront built.
