Former Secretary of State George Shultz

Abstract

Although George Shultz thought it better for government to use official diplomatic channels to convey its positions, he found talking to Max Fisher helpful. Shultz said: "I felt that Max was the person who knew the straight story and whose opinion carried real [weight in Israel and in the American Jewish community]. So I instinctively turned to him. You could speak confidentially to him and trust him. He told you what he believed and what he was going to do."
